The X Factor is a talent search TV series that aims at finding that new singing talent. The show airs on Fox and premiered on September 21st, 2011. The show is a little different from its competing shows. it accepts both individual performers and groups and does not have age restrictions. The judges on the show double up as mentors to the final contestants where each of them is assigned a category to mentor. The finalists are in categories of boys under age 25, girls under age 25, individuals over age 25 and the group category.
The contest is aired live with a 5 million grand award. The judges mentor the group members in the category assigned through assistance in choice of song and style but they only judge members from other categories.

The host of ‘The Voice’ Carson Daly has been reported as saying that they are not sure if the show will be returning in the US to compete with the ‘X Factor’. Earlier in the year it really looked possible that a season three of the show could run on NBC as against Simon Cowell’s ‘X Factor’ format on Fox which was going for its season two.
Daly had said that he and his fellow producers would be happy to make a return this year but the network would have to agree. He said people are still passionate about the show and they will be glad putting it up again. He said the production team is ready and is only waiting for a call from the network.
Meanwhile, the four judges of the show have already signed up for a third season with each reportedly getting the sum of six million dollar for putting pen on paper for another season.
Simon Cowell of ‘X Factor’ had earlier suggested that the winners of his show, ‘American Idol‘ and ‘The Voice’ should meet and that America should be allowed to decide who they prefer but Adam Levine of ‘The Voice’ shot the idea down.
